Kate is 7 months old now!
Kate is becoming quite the active little baby! She has mastered sitting up and rarely falls backward anymore. She is a determined one though so if a toy is just out of her reach she will flop onto her stomach to get. No crawling at all but she can maneuver herself in a circle on her stomach if she wants to. She is very grabby and still loves to put everything in her mouth. Her 1 tooth is very evident and really adorable. No other teeth yet but tons of drool. Kate loves to have her fingers in her mouth but has never been a thumb lover and we never use a pacifier anymore either.
Kate sleeps 8pm-7am almost everyday and wakes up happy. She usually takes 3 naps and is very ready for bed at 8pm. She went through a phase where she didn't wake up until after 8am and took really long naps so then we just did 2 naps but now she is back to 7am wake-ups and shorter naps (usually 1 or 1.5 hrs). She still has three 6oz bottles when I'm working and usually nurses 5x/day when I'm home. And I finally figured out how to get her to eat!!! Well sort of :) Kate likes to keep us guessing with food and makes it very clear that if it's not what she wants she will not eat it. The last 3 days she has opened her mouth to eat but only if I use warmed breastmilk (she flat out refuses if I try to use formula) mixed with a little bit of baby oateal or rice cereal and given to her with a special wider spoon. Still no interest in any real food. It is crazy to me that Kate is 7 months old and has never had any formula and it looks like it wouldn't go well even if I tried so hopefully I can keep up with pumping at work. Her track record in trying new things (bottles, solid foods, and formula) is not so good :)
She is happy if being held, playing with a toy, watching her sister, nursing or getting a bottle, and splashing in the bath. Kate becomes unhappy if left alone, or when she is sort of hungry, tired, or when a toy gets taken away from her.... We have entered a new stage in our house called sharing toys is HARD :) Now that Kate can sit up and play with toys she grabs at anything close by and that is usually something Erin is playing with. Erin does not like Kate grabbing at her toys or when she puts them in her mouth. I can't say I really blame Erin but it's really hard to try to explain to a 2 year old that babies just put everything in their mouth and that Kate is really not trying to eat her toy :) She was very into the 7 month sticker this time too and I had to put it back on so many times that it is no longer sticky at all :)
There's girls sure do love each other though and it's becoming more and more evident and so fun to see! Kate loves to watch Erin and likes to listen to her talk or sing. She is always searching the room to find her and will twist all over to find her. Erin will randomly say "oh you're so cute Kate" and will remind me frequently that her and Kate are sisters and that she loves her. Erin will ask to hold Kate too and is getting pretty good at it.
Kate has entered a definite cling to mommy stage and that has made naps and bedtimes a challenge again. She hates it when I leave the room and even if I'm sitting on the floor with her on my lap she will twist herself around so that she is looking up at me or facing me and she wants to cuddle and burrow her face into my neck. Such a cuddly baby- I think that's why she loves the ergo carrier so much since she can face me all the time. She also loves to put her arms up to be held and loves to play peekaboo and give open mouth kisses. Kate continues to babble a lot and seems pretty vocal. She is still really smiley and we just love her :)
