Kate is 7 months old now!
Kate is becoming quite the active little baby! She has mastered sitting up and rarely falls backward anymore. She is a determined one though so if a toy is just out of her reach she will flop onto her stomach to get. No crawling at all but she can maneuver herself in a circle on her stomach if she wants to. She is very grabby and still loves to put everything in her mouth. Her 1 tooth is very evident and really adorable. No other teeth yet but tons of drool. Kate loves to have her fingers in her mouth but has never been a thumb lover and we never use a pacifier anymore either.

Kate sleeps 8pm-7am almost everyday and wakes up happy. She usually takes 3 naps and is very ready for bed at 8pm. She went through a phase where she didn't wake up until after 8am and took really long naps so then we just did 2 naps but now she is back to 7am wake-ups and shorter naps (usually 1 or 1.5 hrs).  She still has three 6oz bottles when I'm working and usually nurses 5x/day when I'm home. And I finally figured out how to get her to eat!!! Well sort of :) Kate likes to keep us guessing with food and makes it very clear that if it's not what she wants she will not eat it. The last 3 days she has opened her mouth to eat but only if I use warmed breastmilk (she flat out refuses if I try to use formula) mixed with a little bit of baby oateal or rice cereal and given to her with a special wider spoon. Still no interest in any real food. It is crazy to me that Kate is 7 months old and has never had any formula and it looks like it wouldn't go well even if I tried so hopefully I can keep up with pumping at work. Her track record in trying new things (bottles, solid foods, and formula) is not so good :)

She is happy if being held, playing with a toy, watching her sister, nursing or getting a bottle, and splashing in the bath. Kate becomes unhappy if left alone, or when she is sort of hungry, tired, or when a toy gets taken away from her.... We have entered a new stage in our house called sharing toys is HARD :) Now that Kate can sit up and play with toys she grabs at anything close by and that is usually something Erin is playing with. Erin does not like Kate grabbing at her toys or when she puts them in her mouth. I can't say I really blame Erin but it's really hard to try to explain to a 2 year old that babies just put everything in their mouth and that Kate is really not trying to eat her toy :) She was very into the 7 month sticker this time too and I had to put it back on so many times that it is no longer sticky at all :)

There's girls sure do love each other though and it's becoming more and more evident and so fun to see! Kate loves to watch Erin and likes to listen to her talk or sing. She is always searching the room to find her and will twist all over to find her. Erin will randomly say "oh you're so cute Kate" and will remind me frequently that her and Kate are sisters and that she loves her. Erin will ask to hold Kate too and is getting pretty good at it.

Kate has entered a definite cling to mommy stage and that has made naps and bedtimes a challenge again. She hates it when I leave the room and even if I'm sitting on the floor with her on my lap she will twist herself around so that she is looking up at me or facing me and she wants to cuddle and burrow her face into my neck. Such a cuddly baby- I think that's why she loves the ergo carrier so much since she can face me all the time. She also loves to put her arms up to be held and loves to play peekaboo and give open mouth kisses. Kate continues to babble a lot and seems pretty vocal. She is still really smiley and we just love her :)

Erin and Shane were both very excited for football season but for very different reasons. Shane likes to watch football and Erin LOVES eating lunch on the couch so we combine the 2 for a fun change at lunchtime :)

We went to the brewers game on Sunday afternoon as a family. The weather warmed up and it felt great outside!
Not the best family pic... Not sure what Erin is doing and Kate turned her head at the last second :)
The bobble head we got at the door was Erin's favorite thing!
Lots of clapping and she loved the fireworks after the home runs
Kate did great too even though she only slept about 20 minutes...
The Dooyema ladies
Oh my this girl loves her ice cream!! :)
We waited in line to be able to run around the bases after the game- Erin thought it was great and was all smiles! I have some pictures on my camera of Erin and Shane so I will try to upload them tomorrow. She was pretty disappointed that she only got to do it once though. Hopefully we can do it next year again and then Kate can join the fun!
A better family pic :)
Tired girl on the way home. We had tried to put her down for her nap a little early but she never fell asleep so we just skipped the nap and went to the game. Both girls had an early bedtime tonight :)

Kate has decided she will now eat :) She will eat anything- fruits, vegetables, oatmeal, rice cereal, and formula. It was all a sudden and 1 day she just started to eat. I should know not to try to force my independent girls to do things before they are ready...
She loves trying to use the sippy cup now too but basically just chews on it and occasionally will get a sip of water out.

So we decided to sign Erin up for a little soccer class :) Its only 30 minutes on Thursdays for 5 weeks so it is a really nice little starter class. We don't have much going on this fall and so it's fun to have something organized like this to go to in the evening and  Erin LOVED it!!
Learning some soccer ball drills :) Erin was super interested in following the teachers instructions and did so well.
Her friend Eddie is in the class too which was so great because Erin knows him and they were talking and sitting next to each other in the beginning and it really helped Erin to feel comfortable. She had no fear and jumped right in with the other kids. Yay!! Erin is the pink blur chasing after Eddie in the green shirt.
And they ended with some stretching- adorable!! :)

Erin loves to play with Anna and they play so well together. They also copy each other and make each other more hyper which adds to the fun of playing with friends too :)
I love these cheesey smiles!

Erin talk and 3 year old update

Erin turned 3 years old this week!! She is so cute and talkative and I have a whole list below of funny things she says :)
Erin's favorite things to do include swimming, playing pretend, singing songs, playing outside, and being around animals. She is getting really good at swimming with her floatie and isnt scared of jumping into the water. She doesn't really like when she goes all the way under though so that rarely happens. We still play pretend games like grocery store and school but she is really into playing with the little people toys and animals with her farm and princess castle. She also LOVES playing doctor.
Erin got a hairdresser dress-up outfit from her Dooyema grandparents and we have been getting our hair done quite frequently :) She loves it!
Erin has a renewed love of books lately too! We went through a phase where she seemed too old to really like the small board books but couldn't really sit still for the longer picture books but all of a sudden she is super interested in longer books! We have been going to the library again with the cooler weather and she loves to check books out and bring them home to read. She is getting slightly better at playing alone... Otherwise she will stay right by my side or "help" me with stuff around the house.
Her favorite tv shows are Caillou and Daniel tigers neighborhood and her favorite foods are yogurt, Mac and cheese, string cheese, milk, chocolate, and ice cream. She is very much a dairy lover :) She is still a mamas girl but lately has been doing really well with Shane putting her to bed at night when I am feeding Kate (it was a huge meltdown if that had to happen previously). Erin requires time to adjust to new people and situations but does well if we just let her take her time. She is very caring and compassionate and loves to make people feel better. She always tries to help Kate if she is crying and gets very concerned if someone gets hurt.
Erin's vocabulary seems huge and she loves to talk! If we are at home with just our family she talks non-stop. She is more reserved with people she is not comfortable with but will usually become more herself with just a little time.
I started this list of sayings a long time ago and have randomly updated it when Erin says something that makes me laugh :)
1. "See that hair on my legs mom? Why I have that?"
2. "Is this a short drive, a yong drive or a medum drive?"
She asks this every time we get in the car :) She is only allowed to watch tv in the van on long drives and then there 1 time when I told her that it was a medium drive and she could watch (I actually just had to really concentrate on where I was driving and Kate was needing to fall asleep and I thought if Erin stayed quiet watching tv that Kate might actually be able to sleep so I told her it was a medium drive and she could watch this time too :)
3. "Why do I have to take a nap mom? See my face isn't tiderd, my kingers isn't tiderd, my toes isn't tiderd". And after 2 hrs of trying to get her to nap and lots of crying I gave up. No nap for Erin that day and I guess she was right....
4. "I need a tissue mom. I'm running my nose"
5. "What we going to do mom!?!? I can't walk!!" In a very exaggerated and concerned voice- This was after she stepped on a toy that caused no damage to the foot that I could see :)
6. "When will baby Kay-wub get bigger so I can play with him?" Awwww!!!
7. "You are the best sister in the ever Kate!" (I think she is combining best sister ever and best sister in the world :)
8. "How bout we have Mac-a-noni for lunch" she says this every. single. day.
9. Sometimes when I ask her a question she says "no, not right now" in this voice that sounds like an annoyed 16 year old and it is so hilarious!
10. "I don't have ANYTING in my hands!!" This is her response if we tell her that she can't have a snack because it's almost dinner time.
11. Erin's baby dolls all have names- but not typical names- she has named them-
baby, other baby, different baby, Africa baby, new baby, and Molly :)
12. Erin was walking beside me and she walked over my foot which made her trip and fall- she got up right away and said "it's ok mom accidents happen"
13. I had snuck a peanut m&m while we were in the van and was happy because Erin hadn't noticed me eat it (I was in the back with both girls) but then Erin started sniffing the air. I initially didn't know what she was doing but then she said "I pell someting, I pell CHOCOLATE!" And I just burst out laughing! She apparently has an amazingly good sense of smell :)
14. She asks me "how was your day at work mom?" Whenever I pick her up from Judy's. Such a sweetheart!
15. Erin didn't really used to reply when we would say "I love you Erin" to her but now she says "I love you too mom/dad" and it is the best!!! :)

We went to Monkey Joe's for a few hours with just our family on Erin's actual birthday. It was so fun! Shane took the morning off work to hang out with us there and then we went out for lunch before Shane went back to work.
Sisters having fun at Monkey Joe's! How did they both get so big?!
Loving the panera muffin for dessert on her birthday. Panera is her favorite restaurant so it was a clear choice for a birthday lunch :) She get so excited about little things and its so fun to see!
Hard to believe 3 years ago we became parents to this amazing little girl!

Zoo class #2

Erin and Shane went to another little class at the zoo on Saturday. She loves animals and the first class went great so we decided to do another one. This one was learning about bears :)
First was a ride on the zoo train
Then acting like bears with her friend Nina! So cute!
She was all excited to show me the picture of her with a big bear :)
Kate and I stayed home during the class so she could nap (she's been fussy so we needed a good nap- I think it's the 4th tooth that's coming in) but then we met them with lunch and walked around the zoo for a while together.
Of course they both couldn't be looking nicely at the camera together :)
This is out of order but Erin got to paint during the class and loved it!
The weather was perfect for a day at the zoo as a family and I'm so glad we could enjoy it together.

8 months

Kate turning 8 months old has brought a new semi-mobile stage. She's not crawling but she's definitely scooting around somehow and getting into mischief! With all this moving around Kate's diaper changes have turned into an Olympic sport! It is soooo hard to change her- she is all over the place because she hates being on her back (picture taking was not easy this month :) and loves to roll onto her stomach.
Kate is determined, cuddly, smiley, observant and a big mamas girl :) When I pick up the girls from Judy's house after work Erin will come running up to me so I will start talking to her and when Kate just hears my voice she will start fussing and crying until I hold her. She will tolerate other people holding her for a while if she can't see me but if I'm around she will usually cry until I pick her up. Kate also gets very excited to see Shane when he comes home from work and she will hold her arms out until he comes over to say hi to her.
It seems like this seperation anxiety has made nap time and bedtime harder for her as well. It just depends though- sometimes she will go down great and barely fuss, other times she has a very hard time... Thankfully she still sleeps 8pm-7:30am with two 1-1.5 hour naps on most days.
She is a great eater now and has puréed food 3x/day. Kate dropped the 3rd nap this month so she also dropped a nursing or bottle feed which has made my life MUCH easier at work! I now only have to pump 1x at work (and in the morning before I leave but that is easy) and it is really nice. So she nurses 4x/day now when I'm home. My frozen milk stash is dwindling significantly though and Kate was starting to act hungry after nursing at bedtime so I started giving her a few ounces of formula in the last couple weeks at bedtime and it has gone well. Thankfully she took it with no problems. She continues to put everything in her mouth and now has 3 teeth with a 4th almost there.
Kate continues to love being around her big sister and tries to give her hugs anytime she is close by. Erin loves Kate too so there are many hugs between the 2 of them through out the day. I hope that continues!! :) There is also a fair amount of crying between the 2 of them throughout the day regarding toys and our attention and I hope that does not continue (pretty sure this is only the beginning though :)
Honestly the last week or so has been rough for Kate. I'm not sure if it's the 4th tooth, or yet another cold, or separation anxiety, or wanting to be more mobile than she is, or being over tired because she's struggling going to sleep, or all of the above but wow... She has been fussy. I took Erin to the library for 1 hour last night to get a little break from the fussing and when I came home Shane said he had a headache from all the crying. Hopefully whatever the problem is she feels better soon! This picture was the only one I could even get of her on her back... and she was not happy about it!

The weather was great today so we got to go on a walk to the park!
And as long as they can both bring a toy along they stay happy :)
This evening Shane took Erin to run an errand and I got to stay home with just Kate! I feel like I rarely get time with just her and it's nice to have that sometimes! She is becoming a pro at standing while holding on to something.
And she is quite proud of herself :)

Pumpkin patch tradition

We had our annual pumpkin patch visit with the Hoek's on Saturday. So much fun! Our little-known pumpkin patch which has been so good to us every year and has never been crowded was PACKED this year... apparently more people heard about how fun it was :) Erin and Jack had a great time though and since there are so many different activities once we got in it didn't seem as crowded.
how did they get so big? They were checking out the ducks here.

The fall weather was just perfect and both girls were even sort of looking in the direction of the camera so we were pretty happy with this family pic :)
Erin and Jack kept asking to go and again and again on this slide and were giggling every time!
 Loving the slide with Dad!

2013- 2 years old- they would not sit still for a pic!

More sleepwalking...

So the sleepwalking has been ridiculous lately... Shane has been sleepwalking almost every single night for the last month or so. We had to make some changes with our furniture because things kept getting knocked over. Initially we just moved the lamp off his bedside table because it was loud every time it fell off the table. Then we moved his entire bedside table out of the way because he kept banging into it. And finally we rearranged the room so that our bed is up against the wall so he can't get out of bed as easily.
The sleepwalking episode that made us want to rearrange the bedroom was when I woke up to Shane standing beside me and poking me in the shoulder. I was actually pretty calm and just told him to go back to bed but wow when I thought about it more it really made me uneasy. I usually don't worry to much because I almost always wake up right away. He always sits up really fast and is usually mumbling something but waking up to him standing beside me one time was enough :)
Shane mentioned the sleepwalking to his Coumadin nurse who talked to his cardiologist and they wanted to try a new medication for his heart rate and blood pressure to see if that makes any difference. So far we are 1 week in with the new medication and we have only had 1 small sleepwalking episode so maybe its helping?! Hopefully!

Our little baby is officially crawling! Shes been super close for about a week but today decided she really wanted to get places by herself :) I love it when my girls learn new things!
Her technique is unique but effective :)

Shane and I both love fall and we were so glad we could get these fall family pics taken last week. Our girls were cooperatively for a VERY short time though...(it was probably less than 15 minutes total!!) but our photographer still managed to get some really cute and smiling pics! Thank you Natalie!
www.natalieboser.com

I am sooooo thankful they have each other as sisters! Erin asks to hold Kate sometimes and is getting really good at it. She did great holding her during the photos too.
Can't believe she's 3 already! She is soo chatty and full of imagination!
Kaye is really smiley and I love the age she is right now- very interactive yet cuddly and still my baby :)

More fall fun

We are having a great fall! The girls are at such fun ages and it's so fun to do special things with them! Most of the things turn out well but there are always a few issues with a 3 year old and a 9 month old :)
Last week we did some pumpkin carving. We thought Erin would love it but she was only minimally interested in cleaning out the pumpkin. She had no interest in helping Shane carve them. Maybe next year?!
She was also not very happy about taking a pumpkin picture with her sister. Look at those mad eyes! Yikes!
We did get a little smile when I was helping her :)
Then my parents came for the weekend and we had amazing weather so we spent lots of time outside. First was a pumpkin patch. We tried a different one this time and it had a lot of different activities so that was fun. Erin was thrilled with the hay ride!
Kate was quite concerned about all the bumps during the ride but did fine. She has decided that she will no longer nap in the car seat or ergo carrier though.... It is quite unfortunate. So for the last 3 days she has only taken 1 nap and wow today (Sunday) she was super out of sorts and was really really fussy.  Poor thing.
Shane and Erin picked out another pumpkin (they were free at this place) so we thought maybe we would try painting them this week and see if that goes better. I will let you know!
Erin, grandma VZ, and grandpa VZ being silly.
The next day we went to the zoo. Another amazing fall day. Erin loves animals and said the monkeys were her favorite this time. I actually loved the monkeys too- there were 2 monkey moms with little tiny babies and they were sooo cute!
Kate with grandpa and grandma VZ too.
Loving the giraffes!
Then we went trick or treating too! Erin requested to be a princess and we already had a Princess Sophia dress so that worked out well!
Erin with her friends Nathan and Bennett.
Trick or treating in style :) Erin loved it and did great! She is really starting to be more outgoing and it's fun to see!

9 months!

Kate has now been outside as long as I was pregnant-and these last 9 months went really fast! She is such a joy! She loves smiling and her dimples and fang teeth are too much! :)
At 9 months old Kate has 4 teeth, nurses/has a bottle 4x/day, eats puréed foods 3x/day and has a great appetite. She hasn't had much interest in table food and I haven't pushed it yet but I know we need to start soon.
She naps twice a day but sometimes it's just once if we aren't home. Kate is a great night time sleeper with no issues (amazing!!) but she continues to struggle going down for naps. She starts crying the second I turn the light off in her room because she knows it's nap time. Smarty-pants! She seems to go down much better for others though thankfully.
She loves standing up while holding on to things but doesn't have the best balance. If she sees a new toy that she wants she will fall over reaching for it. Kate is very observant and if there is something new around she is sure to find it. She is also very active- she is always getting into something. Usually that something is Erin's so we have had a lot of "no Kate!" being heard in our house :)

Kate is becoming quite verbal lately- she babbles a ton and is always making noises. She has this funny little fake laugh that always makes us laugh :) She loves baths, chewing on everything, crawling with her right leg up, reading books, giggling at her sister, giving open mouth kisses, feeding herself puffs, and her sippy cup.Kate dislikes getting her diaper changed, going down for naps, having toys taken away from her, and bottles that aren't warm enough. She is usually pretty easy going but she gets very upset if Erin yells at her or takes her toy away. I also told her no in a semi-stern voice a few days ago after she grabbed at my glasses for the millionth time and she burst out crying! Shes pretty tender hearted right now.
Kate's stranger anxiety seems to be diminishing lately and is definitely much less than Erin's at this age. She still prefers me to hold her if she can see me but usually does fine if I am out of sight.
I seriously love this 9 month age! If I had to describe this age in 1 phrase it would be something about how she seriously puts everything in her mouth!! :)
