Dr visit
Erin and Kate had their 3 year and 9 month check- ups today.
Erin-
39 lbs (95th%)
3'6" (99%) she did have her tennis shoes on so she's not really quite this tall
Kate-
19lbs 12oz (75%)
28.5 inches (70%)
Both girls are doing great. Kate got the flu shot and Erin got the flu-mist at the appointment. Kate was a trooper and cried for less than a minute. I thought Erin would be fine too since she wasn't even getting a shot but oh-my-goodness she was NOT interested in the nurse putting the flu-mist into her nose. It was a battle!

Family fun :)
We are in Minnesota visiting my extended family and having a great time!! I just have to post this picture from our drive here- everyone was very excited to be out of the car and eating fast food!
Erin is really into taking funny faces pictures lately and this one is too funny! I love that Kate got in on it too with her little smirk :)

Minnesota weekend
We went to Minnesota to visit my family this past weekend and survived the 8hr drive!! We drove half way on Friday night and spent the night at a hotel. We swam in the pool and ate pizza in the room and both girls thought it was the best thing ever!!
It was our first family of 4 vacation with just us (a very short one but still fun :) then we drove the rest of the way in Saturday am and then we got to see this adorable smiley baby! Caleb is 3 months old now and soo cute!
Auntie Jana and cousin Caleb. He is Sooo happy! The only time he cried was when Kate was first trying to touch him and he was not ok with that! Thankfully he got more used to his girl cousins and was smiling a lot at them after that first sad meeting :)
Kate trying to grab at Caleb again. I soooo love having a baby at the same time as my sister!

Cutest nephew ever! He is a growing chubby boy! I can say that cause my babies were chubby too :)
Cousin love!Kate trying to grab at Caleb again. I soooo love having a baby at the same time as my sister!
She is doing amazingly well as a new mom and is now back at work as a Spanish teacher and I'm so proud of her!
My parents made the drive up to see us too and Erin loved all the extra attention! She was very interested in school since auntie Jana and uncle John are both teachers so grandpa and Erin played school a lot :)

Everyone has a question for auntie Jana :)
Uncle Scott came to visit us too on his day off work and Erin loved playing stickers with him! She drew him a picture on our drive there of her new favorite tv cartoon character, Doc McStuffins, and she told me "this is for Uncle Scott- he loves Doc McStuffins!!" :) Pretty sure he has never heard of Doc McStuffins but we just pretended because she was so excited to give it to him!
Kate got some auntie time in too- she loves to walk now and would walk holding onto our hands all day if we let her. She is also beginning to have her own opinion about things and if I try to have her sit when she wants to walk she is sure to let us know that's she's not happy about it!
More playing with grandma VZ

Kate is becoming more of a mamas girl lately and did not appreciate Jana trying to hold her this particular time. Soon enough Kate will be talking about how cool auntie Jana is and how uncool I am... But maybe just maybe she will think we are both cool :)
Dads and babies early Sunday morning. Caleb and Kate are 6 months apart but look a lot closer in age. Kate is definitely thinning out with all her crawling and activity!
She also got her first scrape on her nose... Poor baby. She was crawling on a foot stool and fell on top of it at Sunday lunch at my grandparents. She handled it pretty well considering though. I don't have any pictures from Sunday lunch but we had a great time! We got to see a lot of my cousins and all of my aunts and uncles! It was soo fun to catch up and Erin and Kate loved playing with my cousins Jeremy and heather again!
Grandparents with their 3 grand kids! Erin was not interested in taking pictures on Saturday and pretty much every family picture we took had this scowl from her.
And then on Monday when we tried pictures again but Kate was a mess! Our children do not do well with pictures right now...
We did manage to get 1 picture with everyone sort of looking :)

Little miss mobile and an ear infection...
Kate is 9.5 months old and soo active! She is already standing alone for about 10 seconds at a time, pulling herself up on everything, and walking with this push toy! I'm betting that she will be walking by Christmas but I guess we will have to wait and see :)
She also has the first ear infection of either of our girls. Somehow Erin has never had one and we are so thankful for that. Poor Kate has been struggling with a bad cold for over 2 weeks now. Her nose is running constantly, she has a cough, and she has been more clingy than normal on and off these past 2 weeks. We decided that since this has just been lingering and not really getting any better that I should probably take her in. Thankfully her oxygen level was great and she has some upper respiratory congestion but her lungs sound clear so we just have a right ear infection. She has taken the antibiotic amazingly well (yay for bubble gum flavor) and her big sister is VERY interested in giving her lots of doctor check-ups and helping give her the medicine :) Hopefully she starts feeling better really soon!

changing seasons
October
November
Erin and Kate were soo excited to go outside today but neither lasted more than 5 minutes... Kate could hardly move and took a nose dive trying to crawl in her snowsuit before we even got outside so she was not in a good mood. And Erin kept yelling "the snow is getting in my eyes!!!" and was not happy about the wind at all. At least they weren't crying in the picture! :)

busy baby
This girl is everywhere! And honestly we love it. She will play by herself and she can entertain herself for quite a while! She makes a big mess but it's worth it! Kate does occasionally still cry if I leave the room (like her sister ALWAYS used to do) but that isn't very common.
She loves the dishwasher! :)And climbing under the table is one of her favorite things to do. The challenging part is our hardwood floors- they are awfully slippery and she has taken quite a few spills because of it.
Kate is very good at pulling things out of the toy box and throwing them all over... Yikes it's a mess in there!
I actually have no idea how she pulled so many books off the library shelf so quickly! I read Erin 1 book and looked up to see this!
She loves standing by the fireplace too. We rigged up a makeshift fireplace protector (2 thick blankets) when Erin was learning to walk and it is now in place again for Kate.

Thanksgiving!
Reading books with grandpa Dooyema. We noticed Erin had a kinda raspy voice on thanksgiving but acted fine all day. Today was another story...
We have ear infection #2 at our house. Erin woke up covered in a rash with a cold/ cough. I took her to the dr. and he said the rash looked like hives and could be from the virus, from food, or something in her environment... She does for sure have an ear infection so she's on an antibiotic and is quite thrilled to be taking medicine like her little sister did last week :) So far Benadryl helps a ton with the hives but they keep coming back. Poor thing is miserable and so itchy. I have to work tomorrow and both Shane and I are dreading it... We are praying that tomorrow is a better day.

10 months old
Baby Kate is growing up! I still think she is a baby and she seems small to me but she is definitely learning new things everyday. She can stand by herself and has taken a few steps but then always flops into whoevers arms are waiting for her.
She is also really funny! Kate loves to fake laugh and wiggle her head side to side in the high chair and give us cheesy smiles with her cute dimples all because she knows we will laugh :)
She loves baths, books, chewing on things, playing in our Tupperware cabinet, toast and Cheerios, Pepper (Shane's parents dog), and getting into her sisters things. She is very resilient when playing and doesn't let too much phase her.
Kate doesn't have too many things are she gets upset over but when she is upset she can let out quite a cry! If we set her down or try to put her in the car seat and she is not happy- she will let us know. She has no medium cry- it's all or nothing :) The only thing she really hates lately is going down for naps. She has actually never been great at it. Erin was always so good about going down and I did the exact same things with Kate but apparently she just wanted to be different :) It was getting so bad that we decided last week to switch her to 1 nap. Erin didn't switch to 1 nap until she was 16 months old (pretty sure that's about the average age) but we just couldn't take all her crying before every nap. She has done really well so far- being happy when awake and going to sleep MUCH better at nap time. This has ment that her bedtime got moved up to 7 which makes it pretty difficult to do anything in the evening but since it's winter and we don't do much anyway we thought it would be fine :) She now sleeps from 7:15pm-7:30am and naps from 12-2ish. This also means that we have about an hour of nap overlap with both girls sleeping!!
Kate has had a runny nose for the last month too but seems to be getting better very very slowly. She is a good eater and will eat pretty much everything. She prefers puréed foods but will feed herself foods that she likes. She babbles a lot and might be saying "mama" and "dada" appropriately but probably not yet. She does have a nice grunt when she wants more food or to get her point across :) Her cheesy smile is too funny!

Meeting Santa and putting up the tree
Shane, Erin, and Kate went to see Santa with the Dooyemas last Sunday while I was working.
Kate was not a fan :) Shane tried to put Kate on Santas lap alone and she started crying immediately so he thought having Erin hold her might help but it didn't either.
Erin did great!! When Santa asked her what she wanted for Christmas though she said "I don't know" :)
Then tonight we put up the tree. Both girls thought it was pretty cool!
They loved looking at all the ornaments!

Messy girls!
My girls are so lovable and adorable and sometimes very messy.... :)
I was making bars with Erin and Kate was messing around in the Tupperware cabinet like she always does (I thought). But it turns out she got a hold of the Cherrios box and threw them all over the floor in the few seconds before I ran to grab the box.

And then when I was trying to quickly clean them up before she smushed them into millions of crumbs Erin helped herself to a bunch of the chocolate topping from the bars. Both girls were quite pleased with themselves :)

10.5 month look-alike
I love looking at other peoples sibling look-alike pics and I haven't done one with my girls in a super long time. When I saw these pics of Kate and her cheesy grin I remembered that I had some of Erin and her cheesy grin at right around the same age!
How funny are these girls?! :) Kate is above and Erin below.
Definitely a few similarities but a lot of differences too.

Christmas light display
We went to a huge Christmas light display this weekend. My work gave us a free admission ticket and we thought the girls would like all the lights. There was a really big area that you could drive your car through and the some buildings with trains and Christmas decorations to look at.
It was extremely busy so we ended up waiting in our car for like 10 minutes before even seeing any lights and Shane and I were getting pretty worried that it was turning out to be a terrible idea. Kate was fussing in the car seat already and Erin kept saying that she wanted to get out and she didn't want to see the lights.... There was also no way to even get out of the car line once you started so we were debating about not even started but we decided to risk it.
Thankfully they both were pretty interested in all the lights once we started going and they did well. And thankfully I had packed a few snacks to share :) They also loved looking at the trains when we got out of the car!
Shane and his girls looking at the trains. I wish I could have gotten a pic of them looking at all the lights- they were wide-eyed. Kate especially was turning her head side to side and trying to see everything and it was really cute!

Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas from the Dooyemas!
Shane, Erin, and Kate came to visit me at work on Christmas Day. It was soo nice to see them :) We celebrated with the Dooyemas on Christmas Eve and are planning to drive to Pella after I work on Saturday afternoon and are loving our time with family!Shane and Erin started Christmas Eve on the treadmill. Erin loves to "climb a mountain with Daddy" :)
Hailey, Emily, Addison, Kacie, Erin, and Kate. Erin LOVES playing with her cousins and Kate loves to talk to baby Kacie (and follow Grandpa and Grandma's dog Pepper around!!).
Grandpa and Grandma with the girls
Baby Kate's first Christmas present!
She loved it! :)
Erin loved her new sunglasses and princess dress
And her new bike! She doesn't really get the concept of pedaling yet but hopefully soon. The weather was amazing today so we tried to teach the pedaling to her on the driveway but she needs a little more practice :)
And all the girls loved the new train table!
We had such a nice day celebrating Christmas with tons of good food, family time, gifts, and the Christmas Eve service at church. Merry Christmas!

11 months
Kate is 11 months old now. I can't believe she's so close to 1! In celebration of her 11 month milestone the hospital sent us the bill for her birth/hospital stay. Boo. It had been so long we thought they forgot about us. Guess not. You know you had an unusual birth when it takes the insurance company and hospital 11 months to figure out coverage and how to bill for a car birth :)
Kate's favorite things are baths, chewing on everything, babbling gibberish, eating/nursing/bottles, reading books (but usually only books with animals), being held by me, and being around other babies, and Pepper (Shane's parents dog). She LOVED her cousin Caleb over Christmas too and constantly wanted to talk to him and be by him!
Kate's least favorite times are when we tell her no, when we have to fish paper out of her mouth, when she gets overtired, and when she has to stay in her car seat for too long.
Kate eats mostly finger foods now but still has baby food occasionally. She is a great eater so far. Her favorites are toast, yogurt, carrots, zucchini and all fruit. She eats 3 or 4 meals/day and nurses or has a bottle 4 or 5x/day. She is mostly taking just 1 nap and is doing ok. Poor thing gets so tired by nap time and bedtime so I've tried to do 2 naps a few times but it just takes her forever to fall asleep for that second nap that it's impossible! Erin cannot play by herself for near enough time for me to get Kate down so we are sticking to the 1 nap. When she's sick (which is soo often- yuck!) we have been going back to 2 naps but then I basically have to nurse her to get her to sleep. She sleeps 7:30pm-7:30am and usually naps from 11:30-1:30ish. And she ALWAYS wakes up just as I'm putting her sister down to have her rest time (Erin has stopped napping now but that deserves it's own post). I hate afternoons.
It feels like Kate has been stuck in the barely walking stage for about the last month. She can take between 5-10 steps consistently but rarely goes farther than that and is still wobbly. But just today she decided that she wanted walking to be her preferred way of transportation so I guess we can say shes officially walking! She still doesn't go far distances but is getting more steady on her feet everyday!
Kate learned to clap this month and is so proud of herself when she does it on command and it's adorable. She has become extra cuddly in the last month towards both Shane and I too and learned to give open-mouth kisses :) we love it. When she hears the garage door open and she starts looking all over because she knows Shane is coming home.
Kate and Erin definitely love to see each other most of the time and can be so sweet to each other but cannot play together AT ALL. Kate puts all of Erin's toys in her mouth and Erin hates it... It's been pretty bad lately- Erin will start screaming and yelling if Kate even starts heading towards her. And Erin can be a bit too loud for Kate and will give her a few too many hugs and then Kate starts getting mad when Erin even comes near her. Oh the joys... But there are times when they will giggle at each other and their eyes light up when they see each other that are just the best! I hope and pray that they will be best friends when they grow up.
I love love love Kate's age right now- she's learning new things everyday, she eats and sleeps great, she can entertain herself some, she knows that we are mom and dad and loves to cuddle, nursing her is easy and calming, and we don't have to try to discipline her yet! :)

Christmas in Pella
We had a great time in Pella with my family the week after Christmas!
Uncle Shane and Caleb having some guy time :)
Cousin love! Kate thought Caleb was the best thing ever!
You can't tell from this picture (Erin HATES pictures lately!!) but she loved doing this puzzle with Uncle Scott and Shane.
Uncle Scott and Kate. She loved being by her uncle!
Erin loved cousin Caleb too. She says "Baby Kay-wub is soo cute mom" :)
We also celebrated Christmas with my Grandpa and Grandma VZ and Uncle Loren, Aunt Darlene, and cousins Colton and Brice. Kate loved my Aunt Darlene and the book she got her!
Oh Erin.... we have tons more pictures on multiple occasions of her throwing a fit with picture taking. There were many excuses from her but the most frequent was that the flash was "too bright!!" We thought this one was really funny though especially since both babies were looking at her and wondering what the problem was :)
Great-grand kids. So special!
Erin LOVED making a gingerbread house with her Auntie and Uncle. She looks so big!
Grandkids with grandpa and grandma. 2 out of 3 kids smiling is pretty good! :)
Caleb is the cutest little baby boy and so smiley and it was great to see him again!! I think he loves his auntie too :)
The start of the gingerbread house :)
This girl and her no napping... She fell asleep while grandma was telling her a story. So frustrating that she won't nap but so cute that grandma got some cuddling in for little bit :)
Saying goodbye to this happy boy
